Harbertonford is a village of about 300 houses, 5 km south of Totnes in the region of the South Hams. It lies in the valley of the Harbourne river which is a tributary of the Dart. The river has a steep gradient and has served a string of water mills. The village has a pub, garage, primary school, church, several small businesses and many self employed people.

Neighbourhood Health Watch in the Totnes area has been taken on by Transition Town Totnes as a key project in their health and social care portfolio.The Transition Town Totnes Local Economic Blueprint, which launched on 28th March 2013, sets out a series of measures to increase community resilience, including developing Neighbourhood Health Watches in the Totnes area.The model will be scaled-up through the Transition Street programme, which has been highly successful in this area, and is being adopted nationwide through the Transition Network.
